30th Annual Chesapeake Energy Parade of Lights

Downtown Fort Worth - Fort Worth, TX
30th Annual Chesapeake Energy Parade of Lights

On Friday evening, November 23, 2012, the 30th Annual Chesapeake Energy Parade of Lights presented by CHASE will take place in downtown Fort Worth. To celebrate this 30-year milestone, the parade route will be lengthened, and will extend from the Tarrant County Courthouse to the Fort Worth Convention Center. The additional space will allow for more free viewing locations, additional reserved seats, direct access to the ITC bus and train station, improved parking and, of course, more floats.

The annual, award-winning parade will feature more than 100 brilliant entries and over half a million holiday lights, ultimately transforming Downtown Fort Worth with "The Wonder of it All!" theme. Dazzling, LED illuminated floats, beautiful antique cars, the area's top marching bands, precision equestrian units, horse-drawn carriages and a cast of delightful characters dressed in holiday gear will fill the streets with lights, music and excitement, followed by the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus and the lighting of the 55-foot-tall Sundance Square Christmas Tree. The parade will be broadcast on TXA-21 later that evening.

Although the parade is approaching fast, there is still time to participate in the annual holiday event. There are a few ways to do so:

Reserve Your Street Seats The parade’s incredibly popular reserved seating program, “Street Seats,” is active and seats are now available for purchase. In 2011, all Street Seats sold out two weeks prior to the event, and all “VIP Hot Seats” sold out months prior to the event. Since the 2012 parade route has been extended, there will be more reserved and free seating areas, but parade producers are still encouraging all who want reserved Street Seats to “act fast.” Prices for all Street Seats remain the same as previous years and are available for sale online now at

Those interested in front row or other Street Seats can view the seating chart online, as well as the added sections of the very popular, "VIP Hot Seats," which feature padded chairs or bleachers, hot/cold non-alcoholic beverages and private portable restroom facilities. Discounts are also available for seniors (60 and older) and children (12 and younger), as well as for the purchase of Family Fun Packs (four tickets purchased at one time). Infants, as long as they can sit in a lap, will not need a reserved seat.

Enter a Float Applications for entering a decorated float, performance, equestrian group, marching band/walking unit, or a specially decorated vehicle in the 2012 parade are now being accepted. For approved, non-profit organizations, entry fees start at $65, and for commercial entrants (which include TV exposure on the TXA-21 broadcast of the parade), fees are only $950. Sponsorship packages with commercial time on the TXA-21 broadcast are also available. The deadline to submit applications is Friday, October 5. Notices will go out to qualifying participants via email by Friday, October 19. Entry forms are available online at

Volunteer The parade and its surrounding activities wouldn’t be a success without the hundreds who volunteer year-after-year. Areas where volunteers are needed include the hospitality sections, Holiday Fun Zone section, parade walkers, review stand assistants and spotters, seating attendants, staging areas, volunteer and entry check-ins and more. Volunteers can sign up easily online at
